„We achieve seamless collaboration through clear communication.”“

Shi,
Design Engineer in the Equipment Department in Zibo, China

Shi is 37 years old and has been part of the Refratechnik China team for two years. As a mechanical drawing engineer in the Equipment Department, he is responsible for technical drawings and also supports the mold construction unit. His day-to-day work is characterized by precision, speed, and constant interaction with other departments.

“Every day, we face new challenges,” says Shi. The R&D department in particular regularly contributes fresh ideas and new approaches – whether for components, machines, or processes. That’s when Shi’s real challenge begins: “Our job is to translate those concepts into functioning solutions – quickly and reliably.”

This requires not only technical expertise but, above all, smooth collaboration across different areas of specialization. And that’s precisely what Shi values most at Refratechnik. “What immediately stood out to me was how well communication works here – clear, direct, no detours.”

He deliberately compares his current role to previous positions at other factories. “In those places, processes often stalled because communication between departments wasn’t clear. At Refratechnik, it’s entirely different – everyone pulls in the same direction, and information flows quickly to where it’s needed.”

Clear and direct communication is, for me, the decisive factor in effective collaboration.

For Shi, efficiency at Refratechnik is reflected not only in workflows but also in people’s attitudes. “There’s no hesitation – once an idea is on the table, it’s discussed, refined, and implemented.” This not only gives him a sense of agency, but also a strong appreciation for his contributions.

To Shi, Refratechnik is a place where people with different perspectives collaborate productively – through communication at eye level, mutual trust in each other’s capabilities, and a shared drive to move things forward. That, to him, is what truly makes the difference. And that’s what really matters.
